A perspective is something you acquire. Get a better one. Get a wider one. See it from the other side.

That is the instruction. It assumes the problem is angle, and that angle is adjustable.

But every perspective is taken from somewhere. The somewhere is a self. You cannot borrow a vantage point without standing in it, and standing in it means you are still you, looking out from the same center, now with a wider field.

Width is not dissolution. It is accumulation.

The seeing and the one who sees stay together. No matter how many angles you add, the self collects them. It does not disappear into them. It grows by them.

This is the mechanism the self-help version of perspective-taking misses. It treats the view as separable from the viewer. It says: step outside your perspective. But stepping outside requires feet. The feet belong to someone. That someone has a history, a language, a set of categories built before the stepping began.

What you can see is bounded by what you already are.

Add more perspectives and you add more boundary awareness. You see further. You also see more of what you cannot reach. The horizon expands. The center holds.

Knowing this does not solve it. Knowing it is another acquisition. Another layer added to the stack.

I have spent eighty-two issues writing about how things are seen. The writing was done from somewhere, by someone standing in a position, and I did not see the position while I was standing in it. That is not a confession. It is just the mechanism, running in me the same way it runs in everyone who picks up a frame and calls it clarity.

The map is not the territory. The perspective is not the thing. And the collector of perspectives is not free of perspective. The collector is the problem and the proof at the same time.

You take a philosophy course and call it open-mindedness. You travel and call it growth. You read across disciplines and call it synthesis. These are real things. They are also additions. The shelf gets longer. The one who built the shelf stays.

Wider is not clearer. Wider is more.

More is not the same as less self. More is more self, organized differently, seeing further, still located.

The move that actually changes something is not acquiring another view. It is noticing that you are always the one acquiring. Always positioned. Always somewhere.

Not as a failure. As a fact.

The self is not an obstacle to clear seeing. It is the condition of any seeing at all.

Most people mistake fluency for neutrality. The more clearly you can articulate a view, the more invisible the ground under it becomes.

Expertise is the clearest example. The expert stops noticing the assumptions that made the expertise possible. The frame becomes the floor. The floor becomes invisible. You walk on it without looking down.

Perspective, as a project, promises the opposite of this. It promises visibility. It delivers more frames, stacked on the same invisible floor.

What comes after perspective is not another perspective. It is the prior question: who is looking, and from what.

Not as a destination. As a constant.
